Little LifelyThe Lifely Journal · straight answers for parents, from the people who make the bed
The 3am fear, measured

About the midnight roll you keep picturing

The fall fear, answered in centimetres rather than adjectives.

Morning check: still aboard. The sides do their one job.

There's a specific 3am picture that stops parents moving their kid out of the cot: the thud. The little body that rolls in deep sleep, meets the edge of a big bed, and drops. If that picture is why you're still stalling — same, honestly. It's the most common fear we hear.

I work at Lifely, so you know where I stand. But this fear happens to be the exact problem the bed was shaped around, so let me just show you the geometry.

The whole idea is a number

The side of the bed sits between 25cm and 36cm off the floor (about 10–14 inches). Not "low-ish". Ankle height on you. If the worst happens and a sleeping kid goes over the padded edge, the landing is a hand-span down onto carpet — not the drop from a standard bed, and there's no ladder, no frame corner, no gap to wedge into on the way.

And the edge itself is the second half of the answer: a soft, raised perimeter the whole way around. Most midnight rolls never make it past it. It's a speed bump, not a wall — they can still climb out themselves in the morning.

Grandparents are the toughest safety inspectors we have. Verbatim:

What I'd still tell you to check

A mate wouldn't just soothe you — they'd tell you what to verify. Put the bed against a wall if that makes you feel better. Keep the floor beside it clear. And read the sizing guidance on the product page so the bed fits the kid you have now, not the one they'll be at six. All of it is checkable before night one — and the 30-day trial means night one isn't a commitment: “30 days to try it out. Not in love? We’ll pick it up, recycle it, and give you a full refund.”
